Bus Protection
Bus towers

GE provides enhanced reliability through advanced protection for a wide range of bus protection applications. Our highly skilled technology teams understand bus bar principles and protection techniques, and use them to design, manufacture and support bus protection solutions that can be applied to a vast array of applications.

High magnitude fault currents require high speed operation of the bus bar protection to limit damage. However, this high speed clearing must be balanced against the need for security. Tripping incorrectly for an external fault may cause large outages and jeopardize power system stability. Learn more in our bus principles and protection guide.

Distributed Bus Protection
Multilin B30

Multilin B30The B30, a member of the UR family, provides busbar protection for up to 16 feeders with 6 differential zones. Communication between bay and central units is done using Process Bus (IEC 61850-9-2LE) or standard (IEC 61869) protocols. It offers a large color LCD display. It can also be used for centralized protection for MV substations requiring busbar, breaker fail and feeder phase/neutral/ground overcurrent and under/overvoltage protection.

P741/2/3

MiCOM P741/2/3 Agile Part of the MiCOM P40 Agile family of relays, consisting of the Agile P741 central unit and P742 and P743 peripheral units, the P74x Agile is engineered to provide a traditional distributed architecture for busbar protection with CT saturation detection and dynamic topology processing algorithms. It can accommodate up to 8 zones (plus a check zone) and up to 28 terminals.

Centralized Bus Protection
Multilin B90

Multilin B90Comprehensive and scalable bus and breaker fail protection for LV, HV and EHV busbars. The B90, a member of the UR family, supports multi-section busbars schemes of up to 24 feeders and 6 zones. It offers a large color LCD display.

P747

MiCOM P747 Agile The P747 Agile relay, a member of the MiCOM P40 Agile family, provides complete protection up to extra high voltage busbar configurations. It can accommodate up to 4 zones (plus check zone) and protect up to 18 feeders. The P747 Is particularly useful in double busbar with double bus coupler applications due to its high number of I/Os.

P746

MiCOM P746 Agile The P746 Agile, a member of the MiCOM P40 Agile family, provides an easy to engineer solution for smaller size MV and HV busbar configurations with up to 2 zones (plus a check zone) and up to 6 feeders (1 box) or 18 feeders (3 boxes, 1 per phase). It can also be used with process bus in 1 box applications.

High Impedance Bus Differential
P145

MiCOM P145 Agile The MiCOM P145 numerical relay provides fast and reliable high impedance busbar differential protection. The P145 provides voltage and current based buswire supervision with 10 function keys, 18 programmable LEDs and 16I/16O for busbar protection scheme logic, control and indications.

P14NB

MiCOM P14NB Agile The MiCOM P14NB numerical relay provides fast and reliable high impedance busbar differential protection in a compact case. The P14NB provides current based buswire supervision with 8I/8O and 4 programmable LEDs for busbar protection scheme logic, control and indications.

MCAG

MCAG The MCAG electromechanical relays provides fast and reliable high impedance busbar differential protection. Settings are in amps.

MFAC

MFAC The MFAC electromechanical relays provides fast and reliable high impedance busbar differential protection. Settings are in volts.

MVTP

MVTP The MVTP provides continuous voltage supervision of the buswires in high impedance busbar protection schemes to detect open-circuited buswires as well as open-circuited main current transformers.

HID

HID The HID module provides stabilizing resistors together with voltage limiters (MOVs) to achieve high impedance differential protection with MiCOM P14x numerical relays. External Metrosils and stabilizing resistors used with the MCAG/MFAC relays for high impedance differential protection can also be used with the P14x relays.
